Supreme Court rules in favor of families
Dear Anthony,
I
would like to share some very exciting news with you concerning the
Supreme Court supporting the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
right to fine television stations and networks that broadcast
obscene language. The
Supreme Court ruled in
favor of the FCC
on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in the agency’s efforts to punish
television broadcasters that broadcast indecency.
The Court found in favor of the FCC against the FOX Television
Network in a lawsuit over "fleeting expletives" and "spontaneous
utterances" of certain four-letter words during primetime.
The Court's ruling is the direct result of OneMillionDads.com
members filing thousands of complaints against FOX after it aired
the 2003 Billboard Music Awards show, in which FOX broadcast the
f-word and two uses of the s-word.
The FOX network filed suit against the FCC after it ruled what FOX
broadcast was legally indecent and subject to stiff penalties and
large fines. However, the FCC stood its ground, maintaining
children and families have the right to be protected from indecency
on network television.
The
lawsuit took over five years to get a favorable ruling, and your
hard work has paid off! Thank you dads for remaining steadfast and
having such an extraordinary impact in today's culture. Your
efforts have not gone unnoticed.
I
encourage you to forward this e-mail to your friends and urge them
to join our efforts. We are making a difference!
Sincerely,
Donald E. Wildmon, Chairman
